For founders and business owners

Uptime Monitoring for Founders

You run the business. Sentinel watches the website. Plain alerts the moment something breaks, a status page your customers can check, and warnings before a certificate or domain quietly expires.

Why founders pick Sentinel

Find out from Sentinel, not from a customer

The worst way to learn your site is down is an email from someone who tried to buy something. Sentinel checks your site around the clock from four places in the world and tells you the moment something breaks, in words you don't need an engineer to translate.

  • Plain alerts by email, text, Slack or Telegram
  • A status page customers can check instead of emailing you
  • Warnings weeks before a certificate or domain expires

The parts of monitoring a business actually needs

Set up in a minute

Paste your web address, choose where you want to be told, done. Nothing to install and nothing to configure. The free plan covers ten sites, which is most small businesses.

Told the way you want

Email, text message, Slack, Discord, Telegram or Microsoft Teams. Pick one or several. You get one message when a site goes down and one when it's back, not a flood.

Only real outages

Sentinel checks from four regions and waits for three of them to agree before it alerts you. A blip on one network doesn't become a false alarm on your phone.

A status page for customers

Publish a simple page showing whether your service is up. When something does go wrong, customers check the page instead of filling your inbox, and they can see when it's fixed.

The renewals you'd forget

Expired SSL certificates and lapsed domains take sites down quietly and embarrassingly. Sentinel watches both and warns you well ahead, with the registrar and expiry date in the alert.

Know what downtime costs

The free downtime cost calculator turns your traffic and revenue into a number per hour of outage. Useful for deciding how fast you need to know, and for the conversation with whoever hosts your site.

FAQ

Questions founders ask about monitoring

Still have questions? Get in touch.

Do I need to be technical to use this?

No. You add a site by typing its address and choosing how you'd like to be alerted. Sentinel handles the checking. Alerts are written in plain language, and if you ever want the detail, it's there for whoever maintains your site.

Is it really free?

Yes. The free plan watches up to ten sites, checks each one every five minutes, and doesn't ask for a card. Paid plans check more often, add more sites and unlock extras like SMS alerts and branded status pages, with a 14-day trial.

My hosting company says they monitor my site. Why do I need this?

They monitor their servers, for their own promises, and they won't call you. A site can be unreachable while the server is fine: an expired certificate, a domain that lapsed, a broken DNS change, a plugin update that took the homepage down. Sentinel watches your site from the outside, the way a customer sees it, and tells you directly.

Will I get woken up for nothing?

Sentinel checks from four regions and only alerts you when three of them agree the site is down. You also choose the channels, so you can send email during the day and reserve text messages for the sites that can't wait.

Can my customers see if the site is up?

Yes. Every account can publish a status page showing the current state of your services and recent history. You can serve it from your own domain, and the Business plan removes Sentinel's branding from it.

What happens when the site goes down?

You get an alert with what failed and when, an incident opens with a timeline, and you get another message when the site recovers with how long it was out. The record stays in your account, which is useful if you ever need to show your host or developer what happened.
